Terry Promane

Terry is a low brass specialist and arranger, active in jazz and commercial music. He appears with numerous Toronto based groups including Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass, the JUNO award winning Rob McConnell Tentet, The Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra, The Mike Murley Septet, and The Dave Young Octet.

Career highlights include, Kenny Wheeler, Bill Holman, Maria Schneider, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Mel Torme, Natalie Cole, and many others. His extensive work in musical theatre includes, The Lord of the Rings, Show Boat, Sunset Boulevard, Crazy for You, Phantom of the Opera, Guys and Dolls, CATS, Wizard of Oz, Damn Yankees, The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ragtime, Chicago, Jolson, Fosse, FAME and The Lion King, The Producers, and the Rat Pack.

Terry can also be heard on numerous television and radio jingles as well as TV themes and feature movies.

As a writer, Terry has considerable experience composing and arranging for many groups including, The Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra, The Jazz Cartel, The Brigham Phillips Big Band, The Kirk MacDonald Big Band, Paul Read Orchestra and Dave Young.

Terry is an Assistant Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Toronto, and a former faculty member at Humber College, Mohawk College and York University.

In 1999, and 2000, Terry was honored as the “Jazz Trombonist of theYear” from the Jazz Report magazine.
